Wow, a quick turnaround for Falcon’s competition squad, with most partnerships having taken part in our own club championships just two weeks earlier at the Falcon Invitational. This time, the 9th of July brought with it the next challenge, the Bedfordshire County Championships 2023.
Falcon’s entire competition squad made the short journey over to Milton Keynes for the chance to become County Champion, a title everyone had their eyes set on – why wouldn’t they? Additionally, this year saw the introduction of the Bedfordshire Open – a competition allowing clubs form outside the county, to challenge Bedfordshire based clubs. This meant that Falcon’s gymnasts not only had to prove themselves against the other clubs in the surrounding area, but also against other challenging clubs across the region.
With our squad almost reaching optimum performance as we progressed through the year, I took the decision to enter the whole squad into the County Championships to see how great this year’s class of 2023 gymnasts really are! Entering 28 partnerships across a range of grades and disciplines, into one competition, is no small feat – in fact, it is a training timetabling nightmare. My team of coaches and gymnasts were all up for the challenge, putting their trust in the process. They didn’t disappoint – 11 Bedfordshire County champions and 5 Bedfordshire Open champions!
Yet again, our Falcon parent volunteers stepped up by helping to get the venue ready and serving refreshments, which is why we can never thank those that get stuck in and help enough. Without your support and time there would be no competitions – so, on behalf of the County and Falcon Gymnastics Club thank you for your continued support, it’s never taken for granted.
Once the doors opened, the team of 7 Falcon coaches took charge of our gymnasts as soon as they arrived. They only had one job that day – to get the gymnasts prepped and focused, ready to compete and WIN – simple right? All the coaches pitched in helping each other and in some cases helping other clubs who were struggling, but they were professional, confident, and technically brilliant – well done guys you smashed it out the park last Sunday.
As the day progressed, you could see the strain of entering our entire squad on the coaches. There is little to no downtime; as soon as one partnership has competed, the next one is imminent, but this is the job we signed up to and love – we wouldn’t have it any other way. This said, a hard day is always made better when winning loads of medals! – and boy, we won an impressive medal haul! In total: 16 golds, 10 silvers & 7 bronze.
