What a fantastic weekend! It’s Friday 12th May and following on from the outstanding success Falcon achieved at the Regional Prelims, all 10 partnerships were getting ready to compete over the weekend. Carl had already driven down early Friday to help organise podium training for our partnership who was competing on the Saturday, while Sue and I cast our eyes over the last training session back at Falcon before joining Carl that evening.
Saturday 13th May was the Youth and IDP grades, and as you would expect for a National Final the standard of performance was incredible, especially from the 3 or 4 professional clubs, with million-pound training venues and arms of coaches. Falcons Women’s Pair raised the bar and performed so much better than at the Prelims, gaining 4th place in Dynamic, 5th in Balance.
What an evening! The remaining 9 partnerships arrived mid Saturday in preparation for Sundays competition, and between us we managed to find a restaurant with a “table for 20 – please!†The gymnasts really enjoyed mixing with the other gymnasts and parents, while at the same time it was such a welcome change for me, Carl, and Sue to chat with so many parents about so many different things. We will definitely be organising a get-together for the next competition.
Sunday 14th May, The mood has changed, and all Falcon partnerships now had their game face on! Although the standard was high, all our gymnasts had worked so hard for this opportunity and they were going to give their best for the club, for their parents but most importantly for their coaches. As each and every one competed, we watched in awe as they all performed so much better than at Prelims, we could not be more pleased or proud. Although we didn’t medal this weekend, and to be honest, the top 3 clubs in Great Britain are tough opponents to conquer, we did excel ourselves, raise the bar, and had a brilliant weekend with the gymnast and all their supportive, wonderful parents.
All of your coaches, both at the venue and back at Falcon would like to congratulate every one of you for a fantastic achievement in getting to the National finals and performing beyond our expectations, we are so proud of you ALL.
